I had a chance to work on a Disney game concept. When the project began, I took on the role of acting Art Director (boss was on paternal leave for a few weeks). Managing a team of three other artists, we explored various game ideas and art styles. We decided to move forward with a painterly style of art, and people loved it.
Along with managing the team, I focused on creating UI elements. Above are some icons and widgets I crafted for our interface. Our organic art style was achieved using various guidelines:
- Shy away from perfectly horizontal/vertical lines
- Preserve paint strokes
- Use a hand drawn font
- Avoid using full black or white colors
While the game itself was never green lit, we had tons of creative fun with both the gameplay concept and art creation!
